Have you noticed a “musty” odour in your home? Have you noticed irregular growth or discolouration on walls or ceilings? Have you previously had water leaks or standing water in your home? If so, you may have fungal issues.
In most cases, if you can see the fungal growth on the wall surface, the problem is likely larger than what is visible (analogy of the visible tip of the iceberg).
Mold requires a food source, oxygen and water to grow.
Almost every building product provides an excellent food source for fungi and oxygen is present everywhere as well.
The key element in controlling fungal growth is to eliminate the water source. The water source can be in the form of plumbing leaks, foundation cracks, leaking windows, excessive humidity or roof leaks, to name a few. Our team has extensive experience in collection of fungal samples. We can provide air sampling, bulk sampling or swab sampling to meet the needs of our clients.
As all spores (living and non-living) have the ability to trigger adverse health effects, we utilize spore trap air sampling. This non-viable (no incubation / culturing of sample) method provides an accurate “snapshot” of what is airborne at the time of sampling.
Bulk sample collection includes the physical collection of suspect fungal growth either by means of removing a portion of the suspect building material or by swabbing the surface of the suspect building material. These samples can either be incubated and cultured or analyzed by direct microscopic examination.
